Abstract

Attachment theory opens new perspective on supervision. Emotional safety, support and connection are basic elements of child and adult attachment.  Just like children and later partners, supervisees also need a secure base, which is an integral part of the therapeutic process, but it is equally important for the supervision process. A secure base provides the supervisee with security and confirmation for further professional development. Both the therapist and the supervisor create a relationship and a safe learning environment: to learn about life, about work and mission, and most of all, about oneself. It encourages their research as well as their personal and professional growth. This article points out how important it is to take care of the relationship between the supervisor and the supervisee from the point of view of establishing safety for further clinical work of the supervisee.
