Abstract

This paper presents a phenomenological case study of a visual artist and her process of self- -investigation of experience within the creative process. In the process of self-observation the methodological questions emerged of how to explore the unconscious layers of subject’s experiential nature, which also represent their source of inspiration without demolishing the creative practice. The results have shown an adverse effect of self-observation on the creative practice of an artist that draw attention to some problems of the empirical investigation in the field of art. In conclusion, contemporary scientific research needs to reconsider the issue of deepening self-awareness and the establishment of a state of mindfulness within investigations on the practice of art.
