Solution-Focused Brief Therapy was developed by a team of colleagues under the leadership of Steve de Shazer (1940-2005) and Insoo Kim Berg (1934-2007) at the Brief Family Therapy Center, Milwaukee, USA. A short history of brief therapy is presented as a wider frame, in which the first Solution-Focused model was conceived. This is followed by a short description of how different versions of Solution-Focused Approach developed in different parts of the world. The applications of the Solution-Focused Approach range from psychotherapy and counselling to social work, pedagogy, psychiatry, paediatrics, coaching, supervision etc. The last part presents a historical overview of the research of the Solution-Focused model. In the future, like most of the psychotherapeutic approaches and methods, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy will probably look for as well as find better opportunities for the development in the frame of evidence-based practice and practice-based research.
